1 INTRODUCTION

Academic Regulations Applicable to Diploma Programs

  • These regulations shall apply to all Diploma programs offered by Suddhananda Residential Polytechnic.
  • They shall also extend to any new Diploma programs introduced in the future, subject to approval by the Academic Council and relevant state technical education authorities.
  • The Polytechnic currently offers the following Diploma Programs:

    Note: The list of programs may be revised from time to time as per the decision of the Academic Council and the Directorate of Technical Education & Training (DTE&T), Odisha.

2 DURATION OF CURRICULUM

Program Duration and Structure

  • The Diploma program shall be of three years (six semesters) duration.
  • A Lateral Entry scheme is available for eligible candidates, who shall join directly in the 3rd semester and complete the program in two years (four semesters).
  • The curriculum for the first year (Semesters 1 & 2) shall be common across all engineering branches, with provisions for subject interchange to balance academic loads.

3 ADMISSION

Admission Process and Eligibility Criteria

  • Admission to the 1st semester (or 3rd semester for Lateral Entry) shall be conducted once per academic year as per the schedule and guidelines of the Diploma Admission Committee.
  • Eligibility criteria, minimum academic qualifications, and age limits shall be as prescribed by AICTE / State Government / DTE&T, Odisha.
  • Students admitted to regular full-time Diploma programs shall not be permitted to pursue any other full-time course concurrently.

4 REGISTRATION

Student Registration Process and Requirements

  • Every student must complete the registration process in the prescribed format at the beginning of the 1st semester (or 3rd semester for Lateral Entry).
  • Students migrating from boards/universities outside Odisha must submit a Migration Certificate by the beginning of the 5th semester, failing which they shall not be allowed to appear for the 5th-semester examinations.
  • A Registration Certificate shall be issued to each student upon successful registration.
  • All students must abide by the rules and discipline of the Polytechnic. Involvement in unlawful or undisciplined activities may lead to disciplinary action, including cancellation of registration.

8 TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Academic Schedule, Classroom Management, and Student Discipline

Academic Calendar
  • The Academic Calendar is mandatory and non-negotiable.
  • Total holidays shall not exceed 72 days in an academic year.
  • A maximum of 2 reserve holidays may be declared by the Principal with prior intimation to concerned authorities.
Class Schedule & Timetable
  • 39 periods per week (6 days), each of 55 minutes minimum.
  • Theory class strength: 60 students per section (plus supernumerary).
  • Practical batch size: 30 students (plus proportionate supernumerary).
  • Faculty workload: 22 periods/week (Lecturer), 20 periods/week (Sr. Lecturer/HOD).
Student Attendance Policy
  • 75% minimum attendance required separately in theory and practical subjects.
  • Biometric attendance shall be recorded twice daily.
  • Parents of students with less than 75% attendance shall be informed monthly via SMS/letter.
Campus Rules & Discipline
  • College uniform is mandatory during college hours
  • All students shall be provided with official ID cards
  • Campus security includes CCTV surveillance, security personnel, and anti-ragging/disciplinary committees
  • Institute details, faculty profiles, and AICTE approvals are available on the official website
  • Use of mobile phones is restricted in classrooms and laboratories

9 EXAM RULES

Examination Schedule, Eligibility Criteria, and Pass Requirements

Examination Schedule
  • Semester-end examinations are conducted twice per academic year
  • Winter Semester (November–December): Odd semesters (1, 3, 5) and ex-regular of 6th semester
  • Summer Semester (April–May): Even semesters (2, 4, 6) and ex-regular of 5th semester

Pass Criteria & Division Calculation

Theory Papers

Minimum 35% in each theory paper (including Internal Assessment)

Practical Papers

Minimum 50% in each practical/viva-voce examination

Overall Aggregate

Minimum 40% overall aggregate in the semester

Weightage Calculation for Final Division:
  • First Year (Semesters 1 & 2): 50% weightage

10 RULES & REGULATIONS FOR HOSTELLERS

Guidelines for Residential Students and Campus Discipline

Hostel Gate Timing

Main gate closes at 6:00 PM sharp. No entry/exit permitted thereafter without written permission from the Hostel Superintendent.

Leaving Campus

Boarders must obtain prior written permission from the Hostel Superintendent before leaving campus. Overnight leave requires additional approval.

Entry/Exit Register

All students must sign the entry/exit register while leaving and entering the hostel premises. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.

Visitor Policy

Only parents/guardians may meet students during designated hours (up to 6:00 PM). Strictly no male visitors allowed in ladies' hostel premises under any circumstances.

Study Hours

Morning: 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM | Evening: 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM | Complete silence must be maintained; mobile phones and electronic devices are prohibited during study hours.

Anti-Ragging Policy

Strict adherence to anti-ragging guidelines as per Supreme Court directives. Any form of ragging will lead to immediate expulsion and legal action.

Cleanliness & Maintenance

Each boarder is responsible for cleanliness of their room, attached toilet, and common areas. Regular inspections will be conducted.

Prohibited Items

Strictly no intoxicants, drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, or any illegal substances allowed in the hostel premises. Violation will result in immediate expulsion.

Academic Performance Monitoring

Students scoring below 50% in two consecutive Internal Assessments or having below 60% attendance may be denied hostel accommodation.

General Compliance

All boarders must abide by the hostel rules and regulations as framed and amended from time to time by the Hostel Management Committee.

Important Scholarship Guidelines & Information
  • Godabarisha Scheme: Provides one-time ₹30,000 for laptop purchase. This scheme supersedes others—students should apply even if receiving another scholarship.
  • BOC Scholarship: Can be availed concurrently with Post Matric Scholarship for additional financial support.
  • Sudakshya Scheme: Exclusively for girl students pursuing technical education. Can be combined with other scholarships.
  • Green Passage: Specifically designed for orphan students in technical education programs.
  • Application Deadline: Strictly enforced. Late applications will not be considered under any circumstances.
  • Document Verification: All original documents must be presented for verification during the application process.
  • Scholarship Continuation: Maintenance of minimum academic standards is required for scholarship renewal in subsequent years.
